My elect bill is to dam high. Wal-Mart to the rescue!
Most of the light bulbs in my apartment consisted of 60 watt
Bulbs. With Typical usage of 900 hours.(3 months)
I want to make sure not to get too technical here.
What i have here is light bulbs that produce the same amount
of light as a 60 watt light bulb but only doing it using 13 watts.
and can be used for 5 years with out being changed!
How does it do this? Well instead of using a element and making
a direct short with small piece of special metal, making it glow
at white hot (producing massive amounts of wasted heat)! Instead
These new bulbs use a gas filled tube that when electricity is passed
through it, the gas glows very brightly, using a fraction of the energy.
and remaining cool to the touch. Also because they produce less heat
makes them not a fire hazard.
They had a sale at Wal-Mart a 6 pack for $9.88 that is $1.74 a
bulb. I have not seen Florescent Bulbs that low in price ever. Thank
You Chinese people for making things less expensive :)
So i bought 3 packs of 6 and changed all my light bulbs in my apt.
As you can see they are about the same size.
Here is a 40 watt standard decorative light bulb. These cost something like 2.50 for a 2 pack
The 13 Watt Replacement only costs a little bit more...
and lasts 5 years! now, I can afford to leave the cats
room lit all day/night long :)
As you can see the light that is produced looks very good. There is 3 of these in the dining room fixture.
so i went from consuming (60 watts x 3 = 180 watts) to (13 watts x 3 = 39 watts!) and there is almost no heat radiating from
the fixture like there was before... this also means my Air Conditioner does not have to work as hard to keep the place cool.
--- Bulb Surface Temperatures ---
Very few people have as much spare time on their hands as i do lol.
but this is some very interesting information. i have a 1000 Degree
Laser Guided Infrared Temperature Gun that i bought for a little
under 100 Dollars from SEARS.
I measured the Surface tempatatures of a Standard 60 Watt
Light Bulb and the 13 watt replacement. i left these bulbs on
for 30 full minutes here are the temps i got.
First, the 13 watt replacement.
Next the 60 Watt a blistering fire starting 346 degrees!!
Kinda helps you sleep better at night knowing the light
in the other room is only making 133 degrees verses
346 degrees! Also again, in the summer think about how
much money you will save with the A/C Bills.
